Climate talks chief, who also heads oil company, says world must ‘attack all emissions, everywhere’

BERLIN (AP) — The head of this year’s United Nations’ climate talks called Thursday for governments and businesses to tackle global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in all regions and sectors if they want to stop the planet from passing a key temperature limit agreed on more than seven years ago.

UN climate chief calls fossil fuel phase out key to curbing warming but may not be on talks' agenda The United Nations climate chief says phasing out all fossil fuels is central to curbing global warming. But in an interview with The Associated Press he also says the concept might not make it on agenda of “make-or-break” international climate negotiations this fall. United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell says he couldn’t quite promise that the idea of a fossil fuel phase out would get a spot on the agenda in climate talks because that's up to the conference president.

White House coronavirus adviser official discusses plans by vaccine companies cope with COVID-19 variants

Andy Slavitt, White House senior adviser on the coronavirus response, said vaccine-producing companies plan to update their shots to address variants of the virus.

During a Washington Post live interview Thursday, he said the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines “work well for” the most prominent variant spreading throughout the United States, which is the one first identified in Britain.

He said that while the vaccines appear less effective against the variants first identified in Brazil and South Africa, they do produce some antibodies.
